English As A Second Language

ESL ClassesGLA works with international adults ages 17 and older who wish to learn English. We serve a diverse population, with students in our program from over 60 countries. GLA asks students to commit to a 60- hour course in order to allow time for language learning to occur. All students take an English pretest upon registration and are placed in level-appropriate small group classes. Program managers and volunteer teachers work with the students to meet their goals of managing everyday life, communicating with teachers and others in the community, getting a job, and moving on to higher education. After 60 hours of study and successful completion of a post-test, the student will receive a certificate and move to the next level of classes.

All GLA Program Managers who work with the ESL programs are TESOL Certified instructors.

Citizenship Classes

GLA offers Citizenship preparation to those who need to pass the Naturalization Test. (This class is separate from our 60-hour program.) Students must register for this class and test at an ESL Level 3 or higher. Curriculum includes classroom instruction using civics and English study materials from the USCIS website, interview and test video, 100 questions and more. The cost is $20 to new students, or free to current students of GLA.

For more information, or to register for the next session of classes, call the learning center nearest to you for an appointment.
