Please complete the short online Volunteer Tutor Application (below). Our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you and make an appointment for you to meet with a Program Manager at the Learning Center nearest you and learn more about the program. You will also have an opportunity to observe a small group, meet some of the students, and see if tutoring is right for you. Then, the Program Manager will sign you up for the volunteer training most convenient for you.
Greenville Literacy Association (GLA) makes every reasonable effort to provide a safe learning environment for students working with volunteers. Therefore, GLA requires that prospective volunteer tutors submit to a criminal background check (not credit) at their own expense. The approval of your application is conditioned on the results of the background check.
Once mutual interest has been established, the GLA Program Manager will provide a link to the online background check portal hosted by IntelliCorp. The prospective volunteer tutor will enter and submit information directly to IntelliCorp; we do not collect this information. The cost is $14.55 and will be paid by the prospective volunteer tutor with a credit card.
Also, the cost for new tutor training is $20, and it covers all materials. This fee can be paid via cash or check the day of the workshop. Greenville Literacy training is conducted by a group of volunteer trainers who are also experienced tutors.
