The Greenville Literacy Association has served the community for 44 years. Greenville Literacy has five staffed Learning Centers located in Greenville County.
From July 2008 through June 2009: Greenville Literacy served 2,530 adult literacy participants 425 trained volunteers led one-on-one or small group sessions Volunteers contributed 31,087 instructional hours The estimated value to the community at $19 an hour is $590,653
Greenville Literacy works in partnership with United Way of Greenville, Lifelong Learning, Greenville Technical College, Goodwill, United Ministries, the OneStop System, and many churches and community centers.
Greenville Literacy Association always needs new volunteers. Flexible volunteer opportunities are available to teach reading, writing, math, computer skills, Pre-GED (Social Studies, Science), and English as a Second Language to adult students. All tutors attend a training workshop prior to teaching. We would love to have you visit a Learning Center and observe a class!
